It is frustrating, however, MSFT are at liberty to make changes as they:
A host it
B host it for free
C provide their own UI that works

What we are able to do (thanks to tha continued hard efforts of Russell and crew) with FreePops is to workaround certain restrictions that MSFT have in place with Hotmail. Restrictions that force free (non-paying) users to use their UI, the one with ads, so they (MSFT) can make some money from a free (to the end user) service. A model prevalent all over the internet (and elsewhere).

At a basic level freepops talks to Hotmail over HTTP/S (SOAP???) and presents as a POP3 server to your mail client(s), when MSFT change something in their web UI or API freepops needs (or rather the hotmail.lua) needs updating for the FreePops>Hotmail (http) side of the communication.

The authors of hotmail.lua are always quick to respond to changes, and, as this is an open project, you are free to contribute yourself if you wish.

The lua in the zip (above) is a 0.1.92 beta 1 release, can't comment on the one from the updater (I don't use it), but the lua available for download off the freepops home page is the same version number (0.1.92) but not flagged as beta and is 2kb smaller. HTH (??).

The 0.1.92 version available from freepops's homepage is the same that's comes from the updater, the one available here (0.1.92 beta 1) - of course - is a beta version of it. Maybe the final version is smaller than the beta because Russells first got it working and after optimized it.

Boogernut, try to delete the beta version and use the updater (I think the beta works the same, but you could have installed it in a wrong way).

Beta or updater do not allow messages to be downloaded.
Only headers are downloaded and message is kept on hotmail server and marked as read.

My mailbox has over two hundred thousand emails in it, though I was initially able to download some of my mail, currently 24896 of them, the plugin refuses to work now for some reason, bombing out with the following:

venture, what is in your stderr.txt file? Please update to the full 1.92 version.

max, send a PM to gareuselesinge. You have some weird stuff in your log.

Thanks for your reply and efforts to solve the problems.

Not sure why the log is incomplete. Thought I had followed all the instructions to prepare it for you. Attached is another for you to look at.

At this time messages from Hotmail will not all download.

The messages at the bottom of the screen say that it is retrieving message 1 of 29 (or however messages are there) then continues to 2 of 29, etc, but only 1 or 2 messages ever get downloaded. Have not been able to determine what causes those messages to be downloaded.

Hope you can determine what is going on because it is a pain to go to Hotmail to work on messages. This program has been great to use, thanks for doing all the work.
